i hesitated —

you're not at equine grief camp anymore, he said

no wet muzzle to feed raspberries to

but instead constant lineation

everything according to union rules

i am always asking to be seen

but here i am too

looked at

a camera always suddenly appearing

behind some fern

My show is on

Sofia Banzhaf

Never have I ever been caught

speeding with a pineapple

on my dashboard

returning to Manhattan to see you

one more time before your move

(I tried to explain this

wretched and full-throttle

like supermodels speaking in the street

but I could not charm the officer)

Never have I ever climbed that chrome tower

you took me to, alone and coughing

hoping I'd turn to moss

Unfeeling but somehow soft

(I have swum in green lakes

balancing a blade for you in reverence

everything unfinished, suspended

with summer's end too close)

Never have I ever killed

every single cockroach

because I do respect their lust

for careening and to be frank

could use a little show
